Top 5 Fun Senior Living Activities

Senior couple having an outdoor picnic

Physical activity, socialization, and simply having fun are essential for healthy living. This sentiment rings true for people of all ages. Sometimes, it can feel lonely being in a new setting surrounded by strangers. We want to help seniors in assisted living make new friends so that they can enjoy their community while living happily. For more than 20 years, FunFlicks has put on fun senior living activities with our excellent audiovisual equipment. We love bringing all different types of people together under a common love of entertainment and fellowship. Given our experience, we’ve created a list of the top five activities that we’ve seen seniors enjoy all across the United States.

5) Relax with Stretching

Everyone needs time to decompress. Stretching combines relaxation with exercise in a balanced way that almost anyone can participate in. Hold your class in a large area where seniors can gather; this can be indoors or outdoors, preferably in a place with minimal distractions. Once you’ve found an ideal location for your yoga class, advertise the event to seniors in the facility. Preferably, yoga mats or towels should be available for those participating to exercise on. There are thousands of expert yoga instructors online. Consider displaying their videos on a screen that everyone can see and having loud enough speakers that everyone can hear. If you’re having an instructor visit in person, make sure they can be heard with a clear microphone and play relaxing music for the most immersive experience.

Bing balls

4) Throw a Bingo Tournament

Looking for a large group game that can be enjoyed by anyone? B-I-N-G-O! Bingo is a classic game that your seniors are sure to enjoy. Spread the word about your bingo tournament so that everyone can know when and where to join; this can be done with physical invitations or online advertising on social media. Once you have an idea of how many players will attend, choose a space to host your bingo tournament. The location should include a proper amount of chairs and tables for seniors to comfortably play at. Before they arrive, make sure you have bingo cards printed out and a method of calling numbers. The caller should be heard loud and clear with a microphone. For those who are deaf or are short of hearing, display the numbers on a screen for them to follow. Hand out prizes to winners to make things even more exciting.

3) Exercise with Group Aerobics

Group aerobics are an excellent opportunity for seniors to get out, meet new people, and have healthy exercise. Unlike yoga, aerobics is for those who want to get a more challenging workout done. The session should include a leader willing to show elders exercises they can do. If you are not able to get a hold of an in-person trainer, no worries; there are countless videos online that professionals have recorded for those who want to follow along. Aerobics videos should be displayed on a screen large enough for everyone to watch. Not only should seniors be able to learn by watching their instructor, but also by hearing them. Be sure to have a speaker system present that will be loud enough for everyone to hear. Drinking water is essential while working out. Avoid overexertion or dehydration by providing water bottles for guests to drink.

Karaoke at a Christmas party

2) Compete in a Karaoke Competition

Showcase your facility’s vocal capabilities with a senior karaoke competition. A karaoke competition is a fantastic opportunity to gather everyone together for a time of reminiscing on old tunes and camaraderie with the community. To make your event a true competition, have the judges vote on the best performance and give a special prize to the winner. A competition adds a bit more excitement and could attract more people to participate. Hold your karaoke competition in a space where seniors can sit down and relax. Drinks and food could be provided to ensure guests stick around for the party. The location should also have audiovisual equipment that can display lyrics, speakers for music, and a microphone so that the beautiful voices can be heard. We offer karaoke systems and equipment that can make your karaoke competition an unforgettable one.

1) Have a Movie Night

One of the most fun senior living activities to put on is a community-wide movie night. Showing a movie takes little effort, especially if you decide to rent with us. At every event, tech-savvy FunFlicks technicians will set up your equipment, stay for the entire event, and pack everything up at the very end. All you need to do is provide a sizable area for us to make the magic happen. We bring movie theater-quality equipment that provides a high-resolution display and high-definition audio. To find the best movie that everyone will enjoy, conduct a poll or ask people what they’d prefer to watch at the movie night. That way, your guests get a voice in deciding what they want to watch. We love to bring all different ages together under a common love of cinema.
