How to: Start Planning a Super Bowl Watch Party
To begin planning your Super Bowl LVII watch party, choose a location that will accommodate the number of people that you’d like to invite. Proper seating, restrooms, and a sufficient amount of trash cans should be available for everyone. The comfort of your guests must be your highest priority in order to ensure that everyone has a good time. Consider renting foldable chairs and tables or tell guests to arrive with lawn chairs and blankets so that they have a spot to sit back, relax, and cheer on their team. If you plan on having your event outdoors, make sure that sprinkler systems are turned off to avoid a surprise water party.
Watching the Super Bowl requires service, so checking that your streaming device is able to connect to the internet at your location before the party is very important. Your location should also have a proper power supply or a generator on hand to power the audiovisual equipment. It is just as important to be sure that restrooms are available with a proper amount of toilet paper and soap; you don’t want your guests leaving your party for a bathroom break! To minimize after-party cleanup, place trash cans around the area so that guests have a place to discard their garbage. Especially if your event is being held on public property, it is your responsibility to make sure that the area is cleaned up before leaving. Therefore, other people can appreciate the space, and you can use it for any future events.
Prepare for the Elements
If you plan on having your Super Bowl watch party outdoors, be sure to prepare for the outside weather conditions. Before you finalize your party plans, you should check the forecasted conditions for your planned party date. If it is going to be cold out, consider using portable heaters or having a campfire if permitted to do so in order to keep your guests warm and comfortable while they watch the games. If the forecast predicts that the weather will be too harsh for an outdoor event, you can always hold your party indoors. Avoid last minute cancellations and changes by checking the predicted weather and preparing accordingly. Your watch party guests will appreciate your efforts and attention to detail so that everyone can have a great time.
Invite Your Guests
Once your party location has been decided, send out invitations to your guests in advance. Be sure to include the location address, start time, and RSVP contact information in your invite to get an idea of how many people plan on coming. Visit our event invitation page and print out our free-to-use invitations, or request your own custom Super Bowl watch party invitations.
Theme for a Super Bowl Watch Party
Encourage guests to go all out; put on your favorite jersey, wear your team colors, or even paint your face to show your ultimate support. The more people who arrive in team gear, the merrier. To make things interesting, invite rival guests to show up wearing their team apparel for a little friendly competition. What’s a party without decorations? Be sure to decorate the party area with streamers and posters that have team logos and colors. Make a photo area for your guests to take pictures so they don't forget about your party. In this space, have the ultimate football backdrop and consider making cut-out props such as Lombardi trophies, mascot heads, and team logos for people to hold in their photos. If you plan on serving food, don’t forget to decorate tables with plates, utensils, and cups that have team colors or logos!
Pregame Activities for a Super Bowl Watch Party
Have some fun before kick-off! Consider ways to entertain your guests with easy to learn games and activities.
Ultimate Fan Competition
Crown the ultimate fan with a competition at your party! Such a game is easy to play, includes everyone, and encourages your guests to go all out, dressing up in their best fan attire. Simply choose a select group of judges to find the five best-dressed fans at your party. Unique outfits, detailed face paintings, or funny prop items are all aspects to look for when deciding on the ultimate fan. Once a group of five fans has been selected, bring them to a place where guests can gather and admire their outfits. Ask everyone to vote for the winner by a show of hands or noise in the crowd. Once a winner has been chosen, crown them as the ultimate fan and consider giving them a prize for their efforts. To prepare guests for this game, tell them about the competition ahead of time in the party invitation.
Pump Up the Jams
A party needs music! Build up the anticipation before kick-off with some fun party jams. Hire a DJ to mix the best songs, or simply use our amazing high-definition speakers to play your tunes loud and clear from. We encourage you to make a playlist beforehand for everyone to enjoy and dance to. Shake things up with a little pregame karaoke fun! We can display lyrics on our theater-quality screens for guests to sing along to.
Place Your Bets
Make the game interesting by placing bets before kickoff. Football Squares is a popular Super Bowl game to test your luck. Begin by constructing a 10x10 grid on a sheet of paper or poster board. Next, label each row and column with numbers from 0 to 9. Guests will place their bets by signing their initials inside the squares and putting money down. Each square represents the score between the two teams in each quarter. For example, if the score is 14-10 at the half, that means whoever had 4 vertical and 0 horizontal wins for the 2nd quarter. There should be a winner in each quarter of the game.
Play Cup Pong
Get your party on with a little cup pong! Cup pong is easy to play and is a popular choice among adults. All you need is a flat table surface, at least two ping pong balls, 20 red Solo cups, and a good amount of the beverage of your choice. To set-up, simply arrange 10 cups on opposite sides of the table in a pyramid fashion, and fill up each cup halfway with your beverage. Once the table is properly set, decide which player goes first with a coin flip. Each player alternates turns trying to land their ping pong ball into the opposing player’s cup. If the ping pong ball makes it in, the opposing player has to drink the cup until empty and remove it from their pyramid. Once four cups remain, arrange the cups in a diamond fashion. Winner has successfully removed all cups from the table.
Pass the Football
One of the best ways to build excitement before watching football is to play the game itself. Have fun throwing around the good ol’ pigskin with your guests. If playing pass isn’t enough fun, organize a game of backyard football. Declare two-hand touch rules where players simply mark the ball carrier down by placing two hands on their back instead of tackling. This rule avoids a potential traumatic brain injury. Divide teams with captains choosing their players schoolyard style, or make things interesting by having rival fans compete against each other.
